While those two are two of my major influences, I should sit down some day and detail exactly everything that influenced me and how. Off the top of my head I can think of a half dozen (in addition to those two) and there are likely more.

Short answer: Yes!

Long answer: Not as an audio podcast with actors and sound effects and whatnot. It’s going to be a series of stories, ranging in length from short (10-20 thousand words) to full novels (maybe even a trilogy or two). I’ve got the first draft of one story written, and am well over halfway done with the second. When I finish that second story, I’ll start on the second draft of each. Hopefully, that second draft will be ready for prime time.

I’m very glad to see you’re still around. I discovered Planet Retcon this year and enjoyed a lot what you did. Just wanted to thank you for all the stories you gave us, the time you put in it and still hoping to learn one of these days what happened to the guys from the Crimson Lien :-).

As for a Hoff sequel, that never got past the idea phase. I had two of them. In one, The Hoff would be a sort of “The Doctor” figure but totally self involved and not actually caring about what happens in whatever place he went. I soured on the idea because his time machine really doesn’t change place, just time. The other idea was a second story by “Stinky No Pinky” about the time machine that our Hoff never used, that was left on the stage at the end of the original story. I figured there was no reason that time machine couldn’t have been prepped and ready to take on one journey. I just could never think of a good enough single journey to go on.

P.S. I loved that techno version of The Stargate theme. Is there some way you could post that?

The Crimson Lien, I only have th e conclusion of the current storyline, and notes about the next storyline (It involves MURDER!) but, for reasons that I hope will soon become clear, I’m not going to reveal it just yet.

Suffice it to say that Chuck and Quincy do NOT die at the hands of the automated lasers on the starship Bastille. They’re not nearly through suffering yet.

But hmmm. The unreleased scripts. We do have 2, though neither is final. I didn’t write the next script, so let me talk to who did and see what he thinks. But personally, I love the idea and have no clue why I didn’t think to do it before.

And stay tuned. I totally steadfastly refuse to give a timetable but I’m actively working on a fiction project that will eventually end up in this feed, though it won’t be audio drama.

More seriously, the rumors of the Stargate Cafe’s death have been exaggerated. Not greatly, but they’ve been exaggerated. We’re not ready to announce anything official just yet, but I’ve gotten a bit of help in the scripting department.

Another thing that would be nice would be a links page that has links to the podcasts or websites you mention on the show. Again for the same reason.

I can see the majority of the last 9, but not all of it.
I think I may have found a way around it by resizing, but I’m not positive just yet. Also, the secondary (lighter gray) did not resize to fit the box I’m typig this in right now.
On the main page: The Planet Retcon banner severely overlaps the various links to the show feed (Pickle, Odeo, etc.) and I cannot see any reference to the Parsec award which I recall being attempted to be on the main page before. Oh, and this may not be anything, but the e-mail link is set up in a way the the image is replaced by the red X.

The picture was fuzzy, so I took 3 more (Which I suspect are very good) and then the battery on the camera died. No biggie, thought I, but the SD card is corrupted. It is hard to believe that this show is only 7 episodes old. The show feels like a long standing, REALLY GOOD sitcom (Cheers/Seinfeld/Friends caliber)! This episode is the best by far. It is an instant classic! It is so well written and acted that fans of the show may find themselves hating the lead character, Pete, for a short time, while at the same time laughing hysterically. Simply GREAT!

If not then, AND I wake up before, say 6pm (not totally unlikely, 11 hours would almost catch me up from the sleep I’ve missed over the past couple days) I’ll send them off then.

If not THEN, then it’ll be some time on Friday.

But with any luck it’ll be tomorrow morning.

Admin (a.k.a. Wesley, a.k.a. Al)- I’ve always said that what I like most about the show is that it allows for you to use your imagination. It does not hit you over the head with hours upon hours of detailed character or setting description. The important thing about the show is that we care about the characters. That is where the writing and the acting of the show shines!

When you leave the character as much a blank slate as I did Al, the imagination can soar!

Excellent work there Gorby, if i dare say your best!.

Overall Rendezvous wasn`t my cup of tea but you sure put a lot of work into it. I was a slight bit dissapointed by the finale but there was nothing major wrong.

The BART team was kind of famous in the prospecting community before the big 47, but BART 47 made them rich.

Mary Bass and Frank Alan were humans and retired to a planet to raise a family. Latter in life, Mary and Frank started prospecting again to get away from the family they had raised.

Philip Roberts was human but Tarsk#vo^@lun was a Vo^@lun. The relation ship between Philip and Tarsk#vo^@lun fell under the “Don’t ask - Try not to think about” rule. They retired to the Vo^@l system to be close to Tarsk#vo^@lun’s family. In an ironic twist, Philip was eaten by the Tarsk# clan at a party celebrate his formal adoption. This briefly
made the news feeds and was well on the way to becoming an inter-galactic incident. It all died down when the human ambassador was forced to concede that on Vo^@l, it was perfectly legal and a high honor to be eaten by one’s family. As a compromise, the Vo^@l ambassador promised that they would obtain consent from any human they planed to honor in the future.

My second favorite scene is right after Pete knocks Emma’s clock off the wall. His tirade is something like, “…Oh POD! Oh POD! Oh POD! Oh POD! I am so DEAD!” I think that scene is what inspired me to start drawing the characters.

Scolnus-772-1476 is an obscure reference to Polish Folklore. Jan Scolnus was a Polish Sailor Knight. Legend has it that he discovered America on an expedition for the King of Denmark in 1476. Hence the name and 1476 reference.

The 772 is a shorthand reference for my birth month/date and year (7/7/72).

I like the name, because it is not overly obvious that it is supposed to be funny. However, what is funnier that a fellow Pollock (yes I am Polish) discovering America 16 years before Columbus/Amerigo Vespucci and not getting credit for it?! How’s about that for a Retcon!?

I’m making a list of all of these, and will hash through them. I’d like to give it a few weeks, maybe through the Rendezvous Bloopers, before I make a decision. But by all means don’t stop sending them now

About the ships leaving the solar system, I /LOVED/ writing that. Thanks. I had to edit the intro so it would hit that point in the music where the pace kicks up right when I started talking about it.

I’ve seen bits of Dark Star. I always wanted to watch the whole thing but never got around to it. It’s in my Netflix queue, but I’m currently slogging my way through both Stargate and Babylon 5 so I’ll likely not get to it for a while.

also really find the idea of the first habitable human craft to slip the bonds of the solar system interesting.

If you’re curious, we used a styrofoam cup and a bit of pitch changes in Audacity to muffle the voice on the other end.

I wish it was ready too. All the reading’s done, and all the voices are laid down in their tracks, except for ONE SCENE, the last scene of the show (the one after the music, before I drone on at the end). Then, I have to do the SFX and add the music. Not as bad as it sounds, but on Thursday night, I actually got a bit of fatigue in my MOUSE ARM (anybody who’s used Audacity at all knows what I’m talking about, It’s pretty much all mouse) and had to stop.

I’m confident about Sunday though, but it’ll likely be late on Sunday.

I just wanted you to know that I appreciate all that you do for the show and for your fans.

If you would like a longer answer, then…

The original idea was that everybody would record at home, and post their readings in the “green room” area that is only for actors. As someone marked as an “actor” yourself, you can see how many have done that so far. My two main actors, Jeffrey and Jamie, live in a house with… GET THIS… No internet access. So they have to come over. And Bob, well, he can’t get enough of me, so he comes over as well.

I have grown toward the idea of everybody coming over. It’s amazing the gap between what I want and what people think I want, even when I’m there to tell them. However, for a bi-weekly show, especially with KJ… What is it, 4? That’s 2 squared. Anyway… On the way, that could be impractical to to the point of impracticability.

Where was I? Oh. Yeah. What I’m trying to say is… Yes.

Anyway, I can attest to the “Hit a support line with a wrench” blaster sound, I have done it and it sounds exactly like Star Wars. There will be shooting in the show eventually, though no big battles with droids and stuff like that… I can’t really explain it, you’ll just have to listen when it comes out.

I was going to ask about that gun charging sound! I thought maybe you’d “borrowed” it from somewhere, but kudos to DJ Blob for a kickass sound effect!

The sound effect was actually just ganked straight from the samples provided with the program I’m using to make teh musix0r: LMMS (Linux Multimedia Studio).

The ratcheting effect is, I believe, kitchen utensils being scraped/rapped together. The charging sound that immediately follows it came from LMMS, but originally, Wesley had made one by simply humming into the microphone. It was actually not too shabby, but I think this one is slightly more recognizable.

As I totally forgot to say in the intro, DJ Blob is responsible for the extremely kickass theme song, and the “gun charging” sound when Emma’s ready to blow some customers apart.
