Midweek update - Sick

Tuesday, January 31st, 2006

A lot of the recordings are done, and we’re on our way to Friday and episode 2 of the Stargate Cafe, and we’ve hit a bit of a wall. Lisa, my wife and the actor who plays Emma, managed to catch a cold that I had last week (you can kind of hear it in the preamble to the Hoff Bloopers show.*), and on Friday she managed to give it to Jeffrey, our resident Slave/Stowaway.

Lisa recorded her lines last night, so when the episode comes out and it sounds like Emma’s sick, that’s why. Emma’s just fine, it’s Lisa who’s sick.

Jeffrey is a different story. See, Pete has a lot of lines in this episode. A LOT. He’s in almost every scene. So, we recorded the first half of Pete’s lines with HealthyJeffrey(tm), and now we’re scheduled, today, to record the second half of his lines, as SicklyJeffrey(R). Not, to say the least, good. It’s one thing recording your lines sick, and another to record half of them healthy and half of them sick. Also, there’s the whole going out and being active when you feel terrible thing to worry about.

Anyway, if Jeffrey doesn’t come over to record today, then it is about 98% likely that the show will be at least a couple days late, and perhaps a full week. I do NOT want to do this, but if I must, I must. This is the reason I want to get a couple shows (a full month) ahead so I can more easily absorb problems like this.

I’ll keep you all posted as things progress.

*There will likely be an appetizer in the Stargate Cafe named Hoff Bloopers

Midweek Update

Wednesday, January 25th, 2006

A couple quick notes as we work our way toward Friday’s show.

First, Friday’s show will be another “off Friday” and it will be quite short. I’ve been fighting a cold and therefore can’t do much recording, but I’ll have the bloopers from The Hoff and maybe a quick promo for the next Stargate Cafe.

Second, the Stargate Cafe is barreling toward episode 2 at a decent pace. Our ineffable Jeffrey Vargo has made it through about half of Pete’s lines (And this episode is kind of the Pete episode. He’s probably about half the lines, so we’re a quarter of the way done with the readings. Ish) and he also voiced a couple other characters, AND he did his lines for the promo that will, hopefully, make its way onto a couple other podcasts in the near future. Thank you, Jeffrey, for braving my germ-infested house to do your recordings.

Third, and finally, I am feverishly typing up the script for U.M.P.I.R.E., which is slated for the 2nd February slot, and I just realized that we’re going to have our first montage. I’m so excited about this; it makes me feel like Planet Retcon has ARRIVED.

Cosmetic changes

Monday, January 16th, 2006

When I have time (or make time) I’ll be fiddling with the site, doing some cosmetic changes to the default Wordpress and phpBB settings to make the site my own. Sometimes these changes will be for the better, I will like them, and they will remain. Sometimes they will be for the worse, I will NOT like them, them, and they will quickly vanish. Please be patient.

I will never change the site so much that it’s unreadable, and I will endeavour to not make it a CSS eyesore.

What you see behind this text* is attempt 1 to “sci-fi-ize” the site. I hope it’s not… Um… “eye-sore-y”.

*People with bandwidth-frugal cache settings and/or Firefox, hit Ctrl-Shift-R to refresh the page. If you’re using IE, I don’t know what you have to do to force a refresh. Try just Ctrl-R or maybe reinstall Windows or something. Or even better, install Firefox.

Midweek Update

Monday, January 16th, 2006

We’re all done recording The Hoff and all I need now, aside from a couple sound effects (Difficulty: I don’t own a real time machine, so I’ll have to think of something that sounds like one), is to put them all together in the right order. Expect it up some time on Friday, as usual.

We have a new version of The Stargate Cafe theme song, to replace or compliment the earlier link. If the last one was sliced bread, this one has the butter.

Yeah, my metaphors suck like laundry.

Going through some of my old files, I found this picture that I made of the bar. Figured I’d put it up here with the link to the theme song:

“Midweek” update

Wednesday, January 11th, 2006

Okay, the podcast is due in about 2 days, so it’s not exactly a midweek update. Sue me.
PRC0601B is in production. That’s Friday’s show. I hope you enjoy it, it’s the bloopers show for the Stargate Cafe episode 1. If it turns out well, I’ll do one every time I get enough bloopers (Possibly after every SGC episode) and if it sucks, I’ll never do one again.

We’re also recording PRC0601C, which is the episode for the 20th. The voices are (roughly) 1/3 recorded. One of the 3 of us has recorded all of his lines, and the other 2 of us still need to record. With luck, we’ll both be done before the end of the weekend and I’ll have the week to cut them together. This will be the big test to see if I can really do a full show in under 2 weeks.

Wish me luck!
